MOTS-c and Tesamorelin are two peptides studied within metabolic-signaling research through very different mechanisms. This expanded guide covers each.

MOTS-c — mitochondrial-derived peptide

MOTS-c is a 16-residue peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA. In cell models it is studied for activation of the AMPK energy-sensing pathway and for stress-dependent nuclear translocation associated with adaptive metabolic gene expression, making it a probe of mitochondrial-to-nuclear signaling.

Tesamorelin — GHRH analog

Tesamorelin is a stabilized synthetic analog of growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH 1-44). It agonizes the GHRH receptor, a class B GPCR coupling to Gαs/cAMP, and is used as a tool for somatotropic-axis signaling research in model systems.

Contrasting mechanisms

MOTS-c acts intracellularly through AMPK and gene-expression signaling, whereas tesamorelin acts at a cell-surface GPCR in the somatotropic axis — a useful contrast for studying distinct nodes of metabolic regulation. Findings in both cases are model-system observations, not indicators of human outcomes.

Laboratory handling & reconstitution

Lyophilized peptide is solubilized by adding bacteriostatic or sterile water slowly down the vial wall and swirling gently — never shaking. Lyophilized material is stored at −20 °C protected from light; reconstituted material is held at 2–8 °C for short-term laboratory use, with single-use aliquots to limit freeze–thaw degradation. See the reconstitution calculator for solvent-to-concentration reference.

Analytical characterization

Research-grade reference material should carry a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis: reverse-phase HPLC for chromatographic purity (commonly ≥98%) with a chromatogram, mass spectrometry confirming molecular identity, and the name of the independent testing laboratory. Batch records appear on our Lab Reports page.

Research applications

Uses include AMPK and mitochondrial-signaling assays (MOTS-c) and GHRH-receptor cAMP signaling assays (tesamorelin), plus comparative metabolic-pathway studies.
