This guide covers two distinct small-molecule research compounds — 5-Amino-1MQ and MK-677 (Ibutamoren) — and their molecular mechanisms for laboratory reference only. Both are non-peptide small molecules and are labeled as a distinct research-chemical class.

5-Amino-1MQ — NNMT inhibition (in vitro)

5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). In cell-based assays, NNMT inhibition is studied for its influence on the cellular NAD+ salvage pathway and S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) methylation balance, particularly within adipocyte energy-metabolism research models. Interest centers on NNMT as an enzymatic node in cellular metabolic signaling.

MK-677 (Ibutamoren) — GH-secretagogue receptor signaling (in vitro)

MK-677 is a small-molecule agonist of the growth-hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR, the ghrelin receptor). In receptor assays it couples to Gαq/PLC signaling, and it is used as a research tool to probe GHSR pharmacology and the somatotropic (GH/IGF-1) signaling axis in model systems.

Research context

Both compounds are used as mechanistic probes in preclinical models. Reported findings are model-system observations characterizing enzymatic or receptor signaling and are not indicators of any human outcome.

Laboratory handling & storage

As small-molecule reference materials (commonly capsules or powder), these are stored cool, dry and light-protected per the accompanying documentation; peptide reconstitution guidance does not apply.

Analytical characterization

Research-grade reference material should carry a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis: reverse-phase HPLC for chromatographic purity, mass spectrometry confirming molecular identity, and the name of the independent testing laboratory. Batch documentation is published on our Lab Reports page.

Research applications

Uses include NNMT enzyme-inhibition assays, NAD+/methylation pathway studies, and GHSR receptor-binding and signaling assays.
